Lutein Has a Positive Impact on Brain Health in Healthy Older Adults: A Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials and Cohort Studies

A previous systematic review revealed that lutein intake leads to improved cognitive function among older adults. However, the association between and brain health remains unclear. Methods: We searched Web of Science, PubMed, PsycInfo, Cochrane Library for research papers. The criteria were (1) an intervention study using oral or a cross-sectional examined levels brain, (2) participants adults, (3) activities structures measured imaging technique (magnetic resonance (MRI) electroencephalography (EEG)). Results: Seven studies MRI (brain during rest, tasks, structure) two EEG included. mainly focused on studies. Three indicated 10 mg over 12 months had positive impact healthy adults’ learning, resting-state connectivity, gray matter volumes. Four suggested was positively associated with structure neural efficiency tasks. Conclusion: Although only nine used similar datasets reviewed, this indicates has beneficial effects health.
